Ranked Iowa Valley sweeps Tigerhawks

MARENGO — Colfax-Mingo’s volleyball team was eliminated from the Class 1A postseason on Friday night following a three-set loss to No. 9 Iowa Valley in Region 5 semifinal action.

Iowa Valley won its fifth straight match when it dispatched the Tigerhawks 25-19, 25-16, 25-13. It was the second time this season Colfax-Mingo was defeated by Iowa Valley, which also swept the Tigerhawks back on Sept. 15.

Colfax-Mingo (9-18) was led by Ries Wilson, who had nine kills, seven digs and five aces. Sophomore Megan Earles had 17 assists. Junior Dakota Hostetter had six kills and 12 digs.

“It was a great season to build on,” Colfax-Mingo coach Michelle Grant said.

“This team has been a pleasure to coach. They were willing to work hard to do what is necessary. With a strong finish and a very young team we are ready to work in the off season and have a strong year next fall.”

Iowa Valley (25-8) got 19 kills and 10 digs from Marissa Ward, 21 assists from Cherisse Ward and eight kills from Caleigh Smith.

Cherisse Ward was 24-of-24 in serves. Iowa Valley was 74-of-76 from behind the service line in the win.
