Newton High’s Cardinals learned Wednesday they are in Class 3A District 5 when the Iowa High School Athletic Association posted its 2016 high school wrestling postseason assignments.
Newton will be at Dallas Center-Grimes Feb. 13 for 3A district action. Joining those two schools will be Des Moines North-Hoover, Des Moines Roosevelt, Norwalk, Southeast Polk, West Des Moines Valley and Waukee.
Sectional and district assignments for Class 2A and 1A were also announced. Sectional tournaments are Feb. 6 and district tournaments are Feb. 13.
Collins-Maxwell/Baxter and Prairie City-Monroe are in Class 2A District 6. CMB is in sectional 11 with host ADM, Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, North Polk and Saydel while PCM is in sectional 12 with host Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Davis County and Knoxville. The first and second place winners in each weight class from these two sectionals advance to the District 6 tournament at Knoxville.
Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville-Sully are in the Class 1A Sectional 9 tournament at Belle Plaine with BGM, HLV, North Mahaska, Pleasantville and West Marshall. The first and second place winners in each weight class from the sectional advance to the District 5 tournament at Pleasantville.
