Newton Police Department

• Jan V. Nusbaum, 43, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities were called at 4:26 p.m. Sept. 29 to the 1900 block of South Second Avenue East. Officers were called to an accident and found Nusbaum, who appeared to be under the influence. She failed sobriety maneuvers and submitted a sample that was positive for benzodiazepines, opiates and tricyclics. She denied having taken any medication before driving. She was cited and released to appear.

• Londell D. Lancaster, 39, of Chicago, Ill., is charged with interference with official acts, trespass, first-degree harassment and open container after authorities were called at 3:01 p.m. Sunday to Love’s Truck Stop. Officers were called about an intoxicated man and found Lancaster, who was causing an issue on a bus and was no longer permitted to be on it. Officers asked Lancaster to remove himself from the vehicle but he refused. They escorted him from the bus and he physically resisted and also threatened to shoot arresting officers once he was in custody. He also had an open container in his pocket. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Anthony A. Hofer, 29, of Newton, is charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness after authorities were called at 1:33 a.m. Monday to 502 E. 19th St. S. Officers were called about an assault and spoke with the victim who said Hofer accused the victim of wanting to be with his girlfriend. A verbal argument turned physical and Hofer allegedly attacked the victim, punching him in the face and hitting him with a piece of board. The victim said he did nothing to provoke the assault. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Marshall D. Rowe, 22, of Newton, is charged with driving while barred after authorities pulled him over at 11:49 p.m. Monday at 730 E. Fourth St. N. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Roger C. Bretz, 54, of Newton, is charged with driving while license under suspension after authorities pulled him over at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday on East Fifth Street South. He was cited and released to appear.

• Thomas L. Green, 33, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault and second-degree theft after authorities were called at 10:05 p.m. Sunday to 906 W. Third St. S. Officers were called about an assault and vehicle theft and spoke with the victim who said she had gotten into an argument with Green when he allegedly punched her and choked her. The victim then bit Green on the nose before he left with the car and the victim’s phone. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
