L-S’ Kuhlmann takes second, C-M finishes 10th at Montezuma

MONTEZUMA — The Lynnville-Sully boys’ cross country team did not have enough runners for a team score Thursday, but that didn’t slow down senior Canyon Kuhlmann.

The 2014 state qualifier was the runner-up at the Montezuma Cross Country Invitational. Kuhlmann finished in 18 minutes, 56.64 seconds.

Kuhlmann trailed only South Tama County’s Blake Keller, who won in 18:14.78.

Colfax-Mingo also participated and was led by Cameron Warner, who earned a medal in 18th with a time of 20:33.90. The Tigerhawks were 10th overall.

Pella Christian won the team title with 80 points.

After Warner for the Tigerhawks was Cauy Furgison in 47th. Nic Duffy was third on the team in 50th and the final two counting scorers were Jordan Lescaleet in 56th and Mike Martinez in 57th.

Jacob Frier (71st) and KC Huffman (74th) also ran on the Tigerhawk varsity.

Lynnville-Sully’s second finisher was Kyle Kramer, who crossed in 35th. Jared Bassett was 57th, while Caleb Jansen crossed in 63rd.

Both Lynnville-Sully and Colfax-Mingo will run in the South Iowa Cedar League meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Sigourney.
