• Pottery Class will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Centre for Arts and Artists in Newton. Your pottery wheel class will be an instructed, hands-on experience and includes clay, firings and glazing your pottery. Class limit is seven.

• Grinnell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Hawkeye Stages, 300 E. 17th St. S. in Newton. Coffee will be served first will the meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m. Program by John Billingsley, “George Washington-The Asgill Affair.”

• Willowbrook 5K Run will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Willowbrook, 501 E. Second St. N. in Newton. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

• Free Treasures Give Away will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton. General house goods, clothing, furniture and lots of miscellaneous items, all free.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Main Street Second-Story Tours will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at downtown Newton. The tour showcases finished and unfinished upper stories at six commercial buildings in the Main Street District. Tickets can be purchased at tikly.co/events/895.

• State Association for the Preservation of Iowa Cemeteries will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Newton Public Library, 100 N. Third Ave. W. The association is especially interested in the preservation and restoration of Pioneer Cemeteries.

• Peer Support for those living with mental illness will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Optimae Life Services, 1730 First Ave. E. in Newton.

• 2016 Miss Iowa USA and Miss Iowa Teen USA Pageants will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at Newton High School Auditorium. The Miss Iowa USA and Miss Iowa Teen USA Pageants are the official state preliminary pageants to the national Miss USA and Miss Teen USA Pageants. The newly crowned Miss Iowa USA will advance to compete in the nationally televised Miss USA Pageant live next spring.

• 2016 Miss Iowa USA and Miss Iowa Teen USA Pageants will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Newton High School Auditorium.

• Free Community Meal will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1409 S. Eighth Ave. E., west of the Newton YMCA. The meal will include pasta with meat or Alfredo sauce, French bread, vegetables, cake and ice cream. All in the community are welcome to attend.

• Newton Opera Guild will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Garden Room at Park Centre in Newton. Members will meet for a program and potluck supper. The program will be presented by Ellen Diehl, who will discuss her duties as director of advancement and operations, at DMMO. All members and friends of the Guild are cordially invited to attend.
