CMB loses momentum in loss to rival Gilbert

BAXTER — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter volleyball team struggled at the net during a three-set loss to Gilbert on Thursday night.

The Raiders’ kill efficiency was only .082 in the loss, while Gilbert won the match 25-19, 25-16, 25-9 following an efficiency of .366.

CMB came into the match with a little bit of momentum having won four of its last five matches, but Gilbert improved to 17-7 overall and 5-2 in Heart of Iowa Conference play after Taylor Forth finished with 17 kills.

The Raiders (10-8, 2-5) only had 22 kills combined in the match, Bridget Hurley led the way with eight, while Mikayla Eslinger chipped in five.

Kathleen Baldwin collected 11 assists and had six digs, while Sailor Hinegardner and Toni Spencer finished with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

CMB travels to Conrad on Saturday to take part in the BCLUW Tournament. Action begins at 8:30 a.m.

Colfax-Mingo 0

VICTOR — Ries Wilson finished with nine kills and 12 digs, but the Colfax-Mingo volleyball team came up short against South Iowa Cedar League foe HLV on Thursday night.

HLV got 16 kills and three aces from Brooke Kuesel in the 28-26, 25-19, 25-11 home win.

Colfax-Mingo dropped to 5-13 overall and 3-6 in SICL play, while HLV improved to 8-10 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

The Tigerhawks host North Mahaska in SICL play at 7 p.m. Monday.
