Bess C. Nichols, 97, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at the State Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home's West Marshall Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. Bess C. Damman was born to Herman Frederick Damman and Pauline (Gauch) Damman Aug. 11, 1918, in Melbourne. She was raised and educated in the surrounding area. Donald Nichols and Bess Damman were united in marriage. The family relocated to State Center, to make their home and raise their family. Donald passed away in 1994. Bess was employed as a school teacher in the community school district. She enjoyed dancing, listening to Polka music and spending time with the Catchall 8 Square Dance Club.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Doug Nichols of Marshalltown; nieces, Doris Dykemen of Ankeny and Ruth Frohwein of State Center.
In death she rejoins her parents, Herman and Pauline Damman; and her husband, Donald Nichols.
