Colfax man arrested after chase

A Colfax man is facing numerous charges in both Poweshiek and Jasper County after allegedly stealing a motorcycle and leading officers on a chase Thursday.

Anthony K. Dommer, 25, was transported to the hospital after losing control of his motorcycle during the chase.

Early Thursday morning, the Colfax Police Department responded to a residence in regard to a stolen motorcycle. At approximately 5:07 a.m., the motorcycle was located in Newton and police attempted to make a traffic stop, which led to a pursuit out of the city. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Iowa State Patrol, pursued the motorcyclist, which was later identified as Dommer, and were later assisted by the Grinnell Police Department and the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office.

Near the intersection of Highway F17 and 60th Street in Poweshiek County, Dommer lost control and rolled into the ditch. Dommer then fled on foot into a corn field. A perimeter was established with all agencies involved in the pursuit.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office made contact with all residents in the area to keep watch for him. The Iowa State Patrol brought in two aircrafts — one with a thermal imaging system.

After sunrise, officers began walking the field along with the K-9 unit from the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office. A short time later Dommer was found and transported to Grinnell Regional Hospital.

He was released from the hospital and transported to the Poweshiek County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
