2016 animal licenses available now

The Newton Police Department has 2016 dog, cat and miniature pig tags for sale.

Pet owners are being reminded that 2016 animal licenses must be purchased by March 31 to avoid a late fee of $20. Licenses are available from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Newton Police Department, 101 W. Fourth St. S. The license fee for altered animals is $15. The license fee for unaltered animals is $25. Pet owners can receive a civil penalty fine of up to $150 for not having their pet licensed.

Residents need to bring proof of current rabies vaccinations for their pets when purchasing the license. The Newton Police Department does not accept debit or credit cards. It is only able to accept cash or checks at this time.

Bike licenses are also available for $2 and are good until the bike is no longer operable.
