Ruth L. Miller

Ruth L. Miller, 79, of Newton, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Careage of Newton. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials in Ruth’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Ruth, the daughter of Sylvester and Tressia E. (Gardner) Burk, was born June 17, 1936, in Swan. She attended Newton Community Schools. She was united in marriage with Dale A. Miller Nov. 15, 1952, in Ava, Mo. Ruth worked as a cook for many years at Heritage Manor and Careage. After she retired from cooking, she worked part-time at Rock Communications for 19 years. She enjoyed playing Bingo, fishing and camping.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of Newton; her five children, Deborah (Allen) Burtlow of Newton, Jody Guinan of Des Moines, Michael (Laura) Miller of Newton, Jeffrey (Debbie) Miller of Newton, and Timothy (Sarah) Miller of Colfax; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Genevieve Hess and Jean Birkenholtz; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hilbert, Robert, Archie, Richard, Clifford and Donald; and her sisters, Lucille Symms and Virginia Collins.
