Tigerhawks end skid with rout of English Valleys

COLFAX — The Colfax-Mingo volleyball team has used its homecourt as an advantage this season.

The Tigerhawks got their first win in South Iowa Cedar League play last week when they defeated Sigourney in five games.

A week later, Colfax-Mingo ended a five-match losing streak with another strong performance at home. This time, the Tigerhawks drubbed English Valleys in three sets, winning 25-4, 25-9, 25-16.

Sophomore Ries Wilson led the Tigerhawks’ attack with 14 kills, five aces and six digs. She had a kill efficiency of .591.

Sophomore Megan Earles delivered 25 assists, six digs and four aces, while freshman McKeely Tjaden contributed six kills. Freshman Chelsea Russell ended up with 11 digs and two aces.

Junior Dakota Hostetter, battling an injured ankle, was limited to front-row play only and finished with five kills and five digs in the win.

The win improves Colfax-Mingo to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in SICL play.

English Valleys dropped its seventh straight match and is 2-13 overall and 0-5 in conference play. All 15 matches for English Valleys have been sweeps.

Colfax-Mingo returns to action at 7 p.m. Monday when it travels to BGM for a SICL match. The Tigerhawks’ also host Lynnville-Sully in conference play at 7 p.m. Thursday in Colfax.
