Second juvenile charged in Newton burglaries

A second juvenile accused of burglarizing three Newton homes has been located and charged.

Newton Police arrested the 16-year-old after locating him at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday in the 1800 block of First Street North. He is charged with three counts of third-degree burglary for burglaries that occurred last week on the west side of Newton.

The police department had responded to three daytime burglaries in which items such as electric guitars, jewelry, game systems and cash were reported stolen from the residences.

During the burglaries, the two juveniles were seen casing one of the homes and removing a screen from a window. After the burglaries occurred, they were also seen walking away from the homes, carrying the stolen items reported stolen, according to the NPD.

A search warrant was served at a home in the 800 block on South Second Avenue East and part of the stolen property was found at that time. A 17-year-old male juvenile was charged Tuesday in connection to the burglaries after additional property was found at his home.

The 16-year-old juvenile was taken to the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Eldora on a previously issued juvenile detention order.
