Police Blotter

Newton Police Department

• Justin W. DeKoning, 24, of Newton, is charged with simple misdemeanor trespass and simple misdemeanor interference with official acts after authorities were called to 702 First Ave. W. at 10 p.m. Monday. Officers went to the Newstar convenience store and found DeKoning inside. They spoke with employees who said that DeKoning was inside the store, staring at the cashier, and they were unsure what he was doing. The officers asked DeKoning to begin his shopping or leave the store. He refused to leave the store and eventually decided to buy two bottles of alcohol. He did not have his identification on him, so he was unable to buy it. He then was asked to leave several times, and he informed the officers that they could leave. He would not leave and was placed under arrest. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
