Tigerhawks swept by Montezuma in SICL action

MONTEZUMA — The Colfax-Mingo volleyball team dropped a narrow opening set to Montezuma on Monday night and then never regained momentum in a three-set loss to the Braves in South Iowa Cedar League play.

Montezuma recorded a 27-25 win in the first set and then rolled to the sweep by winning the next two sets 25-11, 25-13.

Colfax-Mingo (3-8 overall, 1-3 in SICL play) has lost five straight matches.

Sophomore Ries Wilson led the Tigerhawks, who don’t have a senior on their roster, with 13 kills, 15 digs and three aces. She was 8-of-9 in serves.

Sophomore Megan Earles had 14 assists, seven digs and was 8-of-8 in serves, while freshman Chelsea Russell collected 13 digs and was 7-of-8 in serves.

Junior Dakota Hostetter had four kills and eight digs.

Freshmen Mackensie Brown and Delaney Underwood were 11-of-11 and 10-of-11 in serves on the night. The Tigerhawks were 49-of-51 on the night.

Montezuma improved to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in SICL play.

Colfax-Mingo returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday when it hosts English Valleys in Colfax. The Tigerhawks travel to BGM on Monday.
