• Newton Homecoming Parade will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Newton High School. The route will follow East Third Street South and turn left on North Second Avenue East, wrapping around the courthouse square and ending at the corner of First Street South and South Second Avenue. A pep assembly will be at 7 p.m. at the courthouse square.

• The second annual Magnetic Main Street fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at on the north side of the courthouse square, in Newton. Sponsored by the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce. Donors can win gift certificates from area restaurants/ businesses, tickets to entertainment venues and more.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• “The Edna Griffin Story” performed by Maureen Korte and Ruth Ann Gaines will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Garden Room at Park Centre, 500 First St. N. in Newton.

• NHS Class of 1958 will meet at 9 a.m. Friday at P.J.’s Deli on the southeast corner of the square in Newton. All class members are welcome to meet for fellowship and coffee.

• Driving Simulator will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at DMACC Newton Campus, 600 N. Second Ave. W. In an effort to bring awareness to the dangers of distracted driving, the Newton Police Department, in partnership with the Iowa Governors Traffic Safety Bureau and DMACC, will be hosting a driving simulator. The community and DMACC students are invited to test the simulator and experience the dangers of texting and driving first hand in a controlled environment.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at noon Friday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton.

• Battlefield of the Mind women’s study will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at Hephzibah House, 721 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Penny Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Jasper County Senior Citizens Center, 702 E. Third St. S. in Newton.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton.

• NFD Drug Drop for National Drug Take-Back Day will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Newton Fire Department, 410 S. Second Ave. in Newton. Dispose of your unwanted medications in a safe way. Drop will be open until 2 p.m.

• Peer Support for those living with mental illness will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Optimae Life Services, 1730 First Ave. E. in Newton.

• Second Annual Smoker Showdown will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday on the town square in Monroe.

• Bernie Sanders Townhall Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Newton High School, 800 E. Fourth St. S. The town hall style meeting will take place in the high school auditorium where Sanders will discuss current issues with local residents. Doors open at 6 p.m.

• Narcotics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.
