Warhawks defeat Hawks

NEW SHARON — Lynnville-Sully’s volleyball team had a tough time Monday night against host North Mahaska.

The Hawks came up on the short end of a 25-10, 25-18, 25-20 decision against their hosts, the Warhawks in South Iowa Cedar League play.

“We just struggled as a team to hit the ball hard and score,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Heather James said. “We get into long volleys, but we just need to put the ball away better. We didn’t communicate the best, and we really just need to work better as a team.”

Brenna Lanser delivered 10 kills at the net for the Hawks and was credited with 25 digs. Skyler Young had nine set assists and 12 digs. Makenzy Rozendaal and Olivia Ritter each had four kills. Shelby Foster had one kill.

Foster also had 20 digs while Kristen Van Der Wilt had 12 digs. Camryn Russell came up with eight digs.

From the service line, Young was 10-of-10 with three ace serves and Rozendaal went 9-of-10. Russell was 8-of-9 serving.

North Mahaska won the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-17. McKinley Conover was 7-of-7 serving with one ace and had nine digs for Lynnville-Sully. Shiloh Cunnigham had two kills as did Taya Meyer. Meyer had four digs.

In the freshman/sophomore match, Lynnville-Sully won the first set 21-3 and lost the second set 21-15. Kaylee Maasdam went 14-of-14 serving with four aces. Kayla Van Dyke had four aces while going 7-of-7 serving and Mariah Vos was 5-of-5 with two aces serves. Andrea Bogaard had three kills and Van Dyke had one kill.

Lynnville-Sully is 6-6 overall and 3-2 in SICL play. The Hawks host Belle Plaine in conference action Monday.
