Runners, walkers and painters at the parks

Local residents participate in the 11th annual Off the Beaten Path Trail Race Saturday morning at Jacob Krumm Nature Preserve in eastern Jasper County. 6K participants started the race at 9 a.m. and a 3K race began at 9:15 a.m. Proceeds from the trail race will serve to benefit the natural resources and sustainability of Jasper County through nonprofit Jasper Conservation Connection. Despite the wet conditions, around 70 people had registered for the event, Jasper County Conservation Board Director Keri Van Zante said.

A group of local residents also got togther with Friends of the Newton Parks, to continue painting the exterior fence at Maytag park.
