He married the love of his life, Mary Sage, Dec. 29, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in Colfax, and he was employed by Maytag in Newton for 34 years, retiring in 1976. In 1979, he moved his family to Pella, so his son Nick could work in the workshop at the Christian Opportunity Center.

Those left to honor his memory include a son, John T. (Kelly) Leydens of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Leanne (Jay) Davis of Ankeny, Jason and Anthony Leydens of West Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Sydney and Brandon Davis and Bella Leydens; his brothers, Matt, John and Frank; sisters, Ruth Husle and Nellie Riley; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Nick made a difference in the lives of many and will be greatly missed. He was straightforward and honest and a man of integrity. He held traditional family values and was a good friend to everyone. He leaves us with his gift of music, laughter and love.
