Raiders move to 4-0 after win over 3A Nevada

NEVADA — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter football team rushed for 391 yards and improved to 4-0 following a 41-21 non-district win over Class 3A Nevada on Friday.

The Raiders piled up 521 yards of total offense and the defense collected five sacks and held Nevada to only 49 yards rushing.

Blake Coughenour gained 247 yards on 24 carries and scored three times for the Raiders, who trailed during the early stages of the game for the second week in a row.

Macade Matuska put Nevada up 7-0 in the second quarter following a 25-yard touchdown pass to Joe Heintz.

CMB quarterback Nate Bishop came off the bench to give the Raiders the lead for good when he hooked up with Brady Stover on a 34-yard touchdown and then found Tucker Maxwell on a 43-yard score. The touchdown strike to Maxwell came on fourth and eight with 56 seconds left in the first half.

Coughenour took over from there, scoring on runs of 39 and 44 in the third quarter and then made it 34-14 with a 24-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

The Raiders turned it over two times in the first half, including once inside the red zone.

Bishop finished 6-for-10 for 89 yards and two scores, while Hunter McWhirter had 41 yards passing and 58 yards rushing.

McWhirter put CMB up 41-14 with an 18-yard touchdown run in the final frame and led the defense with five tackles and two sacks.

Marcus Mitchell rushed for 44 yards, while Stover gained 33 yards on the ground and hauled in four passes for 63 yards through the air.

Matuska threw for 168 yards and two scores for Nevada, which dropped to 2-2 on the season.

CMB (4-0) travels to Prairie City-Monroe next Friday to take on the 3-1 Mustangs in Class 2A District 7 play.
