C-M netters lose four at Guthrie Center tournament

GUTHRIE CENTER — The Colfax-Mingo volleyball team couldn’t carry over the momentum it gained from Thursday’s South Iowa Cedar League win over Sigourney when the Tigherhawks traveled to the Guthrie Center tournament on Saturday.

Colfax-Mingo lost all four matches it played in and is now 3-7 on the season.

The Tigerhawks opened with a two-set loss to the host Tigers and then dropped three three-set matches to Coon Rapids-Bayard, Exira and Glidden-Ralston.

Guthrie Center defeated Colfax-Mingo 21-13, 21-9. Ries Wilson had seven kills and six digs to lead the Tigerhawks, while Megan Earles had nine assists and Dakota Hostetter had 11 digs.

Coon Rapids-Bayard dropped the Tigerhawks 19-21, 21-17, 15-11. Wilson finished with 10 kills, 10 digs and five aces, while Earles had 12 assists and Chelsea Russell collected 10 digs.

Exira was a 21-16, 19-21, 15-12 winner over Colfax-Mingo. Wilson had nine kills and 15 digs, Earles had 16 assists and Russell had 10 digs.

The Tigerhawks took the opening set from Glidden-Ralston but couldn’t finish the match.

Glidden-Ralston won 13-21, 21-19, 15-12 and Wilson led the way with 12 kills and 16 digs. Earles dished out 16 assists, Russell and Hostetter had 11 and 10 digs, respectively, and the Tigerhawks were 48-of-52 from behind the service line.

Colfax-Mingo hits the road for a 7 p.m. Monday match at Montezuma.
