Mustangs lose in straight sets to Gilbert

GILBERT — Prairie City-Monroe’s volleyball team couldn’t put an end to a small losing streak and fell to 1-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference play following a straight-set loss to Gilbert on Thursday.

Gilbert got 11 kills from Inga Rotto, 30 assists from Bree Richard and nine kills and seven aces from Taylor Forth during a 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 home win.

It was the third straight loss for PCM, which dropped to 2-12 overall, and the seventh straight win for Gilbert (11-4, 2-1). The Tigers were flawless behind the service line, finishing 71-of-73 with 20 aces.

PCM junior Katie VandeWall had a team-high five kills, while senior Ashley Van Gorp had four kills, eight digs and was 8-for-8 in serves. Freshman Maddie Samson also had three kills and two aces, junior Kayla Jennings added 18 assists, senior Peyton Pool finished with five digs and junior Kaylee Townsend recorded four blocks.

PCM plays the Greene County Rams and the Saydel Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Jefferson.
