Karen “Kay” Luing, 70, of West Des Moines, formerly of Baxter, passed from this life Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Fountain West Care Center from complications of a stroke.

Kay was born Jan. 19, 1945, in Des Moines, to William and Mabel (Fallon) Marshall. Kay was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family and friends. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met. We will miss her bright eyes, big smile and laugh.

She is survived by her children, Julie (Monte) McCann of Urbandale, Danny (Debbie) Luing of Carlisle, Lynette (Shad) Marvelli of Newton and Patrick Luing of Des Moines; her grandchildren, Jordan(Roni) McCann, Madison(Ian) Christy, Marcelina Marvelli, Amanda(Austin) Coulter and Breanna Anthony; and great-grandchildren, Carter McCann, Cooper Christy, Avalyn, Ashton and Ace Coulter and Blakely Anthony; her brother, Doug (Shirley) Marshall of Ankeny, and sister, Barbara Coleman of West Des Moines, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bill and Ron Marshall; her sisters, Joy Puckett and Mary Tolley; and her former husband and father of her children, Charles Luing.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 at Pence-Reese with burial at Restland Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fountain West Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion they have given Kay for the past two years. Also to Unity Point Hospice for their help on this journey. Memorial contributions can be made to Unity Point Hospice.
