Constitution Day is Sept. 17

Suzanne Van Zandt

Newton

I would like to remind everyone that it is once again the week that our United States Constitution was signed. It was signed Sept. 17, 1787 at the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, Pa. at 4 p.m.

I’m writing just to make sure each one of us doesn’t forget the patriots in our family who fought and maybe gave their life to make sure we could have the freedoms we have in the U.S. today. Each generation has done its part to make sure we are free. Let’s never forget any sacrifice given.

I would also like to thank the Newton Christian School K-sixth graders, and their teachers, for their artistic work that can be seen at H & R Block and the Newton Public Library. They did a great job of coloring patriotic pictures for us. Come have a look.

Trace your family tree back and see if you have a patriot or two in your family line. It’s fun, you maybe surprised how heroic your family was. Please don’t forget to ring a bell at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17 for the time of the signing of our constitution.
