Tigerhawk netters open season with two wins at Twin Cedars

BUSSEY — Playing in its first matches of the season, the Colfax-Mingo volleyball team traveled to the Twin Cedars tournament Saturday and picked up two wins and a narrow loss to a South Iowa Cedar League foe.

The Tigerhawks defeated Pleasantville 21-19, 21-12 and then took down host Twin Cedars 21-8, 19-21, 15-13. The loss came against Lynnville-Sully as the Hawks won 21-19, 22-20.

“I was very impressed with how we played,” Colfax-Mingo coach Michelle Grant said. “Ries (Wilson) dominated most of the day, Megan (Earles) was very consistent, which is what we need for our setter and Chelsea (Russell) was impressive at libero.”

In the win over Pleasantville, Wilson had nine kills and five digs, Russell had 11 assists and Dakota Hostetter finished with seven digs.

Wilson collected seven kills, nine digs and two aces in the win over Twin Cedars, while Earles had 14 assists and three aces. Russell collected eight digs ad Delaney Underwood had five kills.

In the loss to Lynnville-Sully, Wilson had eight kills and 14 digs and Earles finished with 11 assists and six digs. Russell collected 14 digs.

Colfax-Mingo opens its home season against SICL foe Belle Plaine at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
