Raider volleyball picks up runner-up finish at Perry tourney

PERRY — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter volleyball team had its three-match win streak snapped Thursday at the Perry Invitational, but the Raiders wound up with a runner-up finish and started a new streak.

Host Perry defeated the Raiders 20-22, 23-21, 15-11 in CMB’s opener and then Dallas Center-Grimes swept the Raiders 25-22, 25-9.

The Raiders got back on track against Earlham and Panorama though, winning both matches in straight sets.

Against Perry, Brianda Bane had a team-high five kills, while Payge Jurgens, Bridget Hurley and Bekah Pearson all had three kills. Kathleen Baldwin dished out a team-high 12 assists and Toni Spencer finished with a team-high nine digs.

In the loss to the Fillies, Jurgens collected seven kills, while Bane had six. Baldwin delivered 10 assists and Hurley was 10-for-10 in serves with four aces. Sailor Hinegardner and Pearson each had five digs.

The 21-9, 21-17 victory over Earlham included four kills, three aces and 10 assists by Baldwin and three kills each by Bane and Jordynn Wesselink.

CMB defeated Panorama 21-12, 21-8 and Bane led the way with five kills. Jurgens grabbed four kills and three aces, while Wesselink and Hurley each had three kills, Baldwin had 11 assists and Spencer had eight digs.

CMB plays at 7 p.m. Monday at Madrid.
