Newton Police Department

• Latasha R. Harris-Pearson, 21, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence, possession of controlled substance, assault on persons in certain occupations and failure to obey stop or yield sign after authorities were called to 521 W. Third St. S. at 4:05 p.m. Sept. 4. Officers were called about Pearson being intoxicated and they were told she had left in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and saw it run a stop sign before pulling it over. Officers could smell marijuana and Pearson told the officers, that there was marijuana in the vehicle. She said she had also been drinking and officers could smell alcohol on her, and her eyes were watery. After being placed in handcuffs and put in the patrol vehicle, Person started to kick the car window and when the officer tried to put her seatbelt on she yelled in the officers face and moved so the officer could not get the belt on. After arriving at the jail, she got in the officer’s face and bumped into the officer. She was then restrained and fell to the floor but was helped up. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Racheal M. Ingram, 27, of Newton, is charged with assault and disorderly conduct after authorities were called to the Manhattan Bar at 1:45 a.m. Sunday. Officers were called on suspected criminal mischief and found a large group of people about to fight. Officers attempted to separate the people when Ingram, unprovoked, approached the group and punched the victim in the face. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Dearrius R. Love Ferguson, 23, of Newton, is charged with disorderly conduct after authorities were called to 113 First Ave. E. at 1:37 a.m. Sunday. Officers were called on suspected criminal mischief and found a large group of people about to fight. Officers attempted to question Love Ferguson but he refused to answer any questions and paced towards and away from the group. He began to calm himself and told officers he had been at the Manhattan Bar with his sister and a group of individuals began arguing with his sister and he stepped in to protect her when someone swung at him. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
