Raiders stay unbeaten after come-from-behind win over Rams

MAXWELL — For the first time this season, the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter volleyball team was forced to play more than three games in a match.

And after falling behind 1-0, the Raiders rallied to beat Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference play on Tuesday night.

The Rams controlled the opening set, but CMB got to 25 first in the other three games as the Raiders won 15-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 in their Maxwell home opener.

“Greene County was a good test for us,” CMB coach Scott Ranck said. “They showed us things that we still need to improve upon.”

Unoffically, Brianda Bane led the Raiders with eight kills, while Bekah Pearson had six aces, and Kathleen Baldwin chipped in 13 assists. Jordynn Wesselink also had a team-high two blocks.

The Raiders once again served up lots of aces, finishing with 12, but Ranck wants the serving percentage to go up.

“We served much better, but it still needs to get better,” he said. “We stayed aggressive on the serving, but didn’t move our feet very well so we didn’t get many good passes to set up our hitters.”

CMB improved to 3-0 on the season and is now 2-0 in HOIC play. The Raiders head to the Perry Invitational on Thursday. First serve is slated for 4:30 p.m.

After that, the Raiders will play at Madrid on Monday and at Class 3A No. 1 Nevada on Tuesday.
