Lynnville-Sully wins SICL opener

SULLY — Opening South Iowa Cedar League volleyball play Thursday, Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks posted their first win of the season.

The Hawks defeated the visiting BGM Bears, 25-21, 25-12, 25-14. They are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

“We did a very nice job of serving and playing very tough,” Hawk head coach Heather James said. “I’m very proud of how the girls handled this match.”

Serving was a big factor in the match as the Hawks were 67-of-72 for 93 percent at the service line. They had 24 aces.

Brenna Lanser served up 12 aces in the three sets, going 17-of-18 on the service line for Lynnville-Sully. Kristen Van Der Wilt was 12-for-12 with five aces and Skyler Young was 11-of-12 with four aces.

Shelby Foster had a 12-of-14 night serving with two aces serves. Camryn Russell had one ace.

The Hawks rang up 16 kills paced by Lanser’s seven. Russell delivered four kills while Jataya Meyer had two. Foster, Makenzy Rozendaal and Van Der Wilt each had one kill.

Young was credited with seven assists. Providing three assists each were Carson Fisk, Foster and Meyer. Olivia Ritter had two assists.

Lanser led Lynnville-Sully with 16 digs and Young had nine digs. Fisk and Van Der Wilt each had six digs. Russell had a solo block at the net.

Lynnville-Sully plays at home Thursday against Keota in SICL action, then plays in the Twin Cedars tournament Saturday.
