Throughout the course of September, the library will host a number of activities, including a book mark contest for all ages, prize drawings for new card holders, and treats for our loyal readers whose accounts are in good standing. In late September we will also be giving away an afghan handmade by Susan Beise, technical services librarian, to the patron who can guess the closest number of physical books currently in the library collection on Sept. 15. You will also see the library out in the community, including the Farmers Market. All replacement library cards are free for the month of September, too.

We will be building library card mobiles out of old library cards on Thursday. This craft is for teens and adults. Register at the information desk or by calling 641-792-4108.
Check out more DVDs
The library has increased the checkout limit of DVDs to four per card and now allows for one renewal if there is no hold on the item.
Professional Development Book Club
Join us on Oct. 7 at noon at Uncle Nancy’s to discuss “7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change” by Stephen R. Covey. To receive a copy of the book call the information desk at 641-792-4108. This book club is open to all adults.

Email Due Date Reminders
Avoid fines by signing up for email due date reminders. Receive alerts about items coming due in three days. In the library catalog (www.newton.lib.ia.us, click on Catalog), go to: My Account and choose Email Change Request. Type in your email next to New Email Address: and your library card number (no spaces) next to My ID is: Click on Send.
Renew Items Online
Avoid calling the library by renewing your items online through our catalog! In the library catalog (www.newton.lib.ia.us, click on Catalog), go to: My Account and Review My Account. Log in by typing your library card number (no spaces) next to User ID, then click on Display User Information. In your account, click on Checkouts and checkmark items you want to renew by clicking in the box to the left of each title. When done, click on Renew Selected Items.
