Ronald W. Jarnagin

Ronald W. Jarnagin, 81, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30 at Prairie Meadows Skinner Ballroom. A private family burial of his cremains will be at a later date.

Ron is the son of Forest and Florence Jarnagin, born Feb. 10, 1934, in Newton. Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy following his high school graduation. Ron was employed by the Des Moines Register and retired after 32 years. He then went to work as a security guard for Prairie Meadows and was in his 15th year. He was a very social person and enjoyed the many friends he made during that time.

Those left to cherish Ron’s memory are his children, Vickie (Rick) Hegwood, Vonda (Ron) Taylor, Laurie (Jeff) Pierce, Susan Harrison, Becky Miller, Theresa (Doug) Krueger, Mike (Rak) Jarnagin and Tom Jarnagin; Ron’s grandchildren, Brent (Kate) Hegwood, Jennie Hegwood, Ryan (Sara) Taylor, Amy (Michael) Herzog, Nick (Katie) Pierce, Alex Pierce (Joe), A.J. Pierce (Libby), Chris (Suen) Harrison, Quintin Harrison, Ashley (Nate) Richards, Tony Miller (Jenae), Jason Krueger, Chelsea Krueger, Brandon Jarnagin, Patrick Jarnagin, Marcus and Angel; seventeen great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Jarnagin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; grandson, Justin W. Harrison; and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the “Wounded Warrior Project,” the “Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund,” or a charity of your choice.
