Vickie Blain

Vickie Blain, 65, of Newton, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the funeral home. Memorials in Vickie’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Vickie, the daughter of Max and Rosetta (Maletta) Meldrem, was born May 9, 1950, in Grinnell. She graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1968, and then received her cosmetology degree in Marshalltown. After graduation she worked at Candy Cane Beauty Lane in Newton. She later worked as a para-pro for the Newton Community School District and for Hansen Directory. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, music and playing games and cards. Vickie also enjoyed gardening and canning.

Those left to honor Vickie’s name are her daughter, Summer (Matt) Guy of Newton; son, T.J. (Amie) Blain of Oskaloosa; her grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner and Tyler Guy and Cooper, Marley and Thea Blain; brother, Brady (Julie) Meldrem of Ottumwa; sister-in-law, Becky (Keith) Harvey of Ames; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Blain in 2011; and her brother, Dave Meldrem in 2009.
