Newton Police Department

• Brian A. Callison, 40, of Newton, is charged with failure to obey a stop or yield sign after authorities were called to South Eighth Avenue West and West Fourth Street South at 3:34 p.m. Thursday. Callison’s vehicle hit Douglas Sherwood’s vehicle after he pulled out into the intersection while Sherwood was turning left. Both vehicles had approximately $500 in damage. He was cited and released to appear.

• Jasen W. Burton, 32, of Grinnell, is charged with eluding, operating while intoxicated and two counts of assault after authorities were called to 713 First St. S. at 6:16 a.m. Saturday. Officers were called about a fight and were told two men had attempted to restrain Burton, who fought them off. The victims had injuries from the altercation. Burton left the residence while officers were on their way. Officers located him, and he drove several blocks while they had their lights on before driving back to the original residence. Officers could smell alcohol on Burton and found a small bag of what they believed to be methamphetamine. He had red, watery eyes and was jittery and talkative. He had a BAC of .062. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shanya J. Lindsey, 28, of Grinnell, is charged with consumption/intoxication in public place after authorities were called to 700 First St. S. at 6:16 a.m. Saturday. Officers were called about an unwanted male visitor and also found Lindsey, hiding and smelling of alcohol. She had red, watery, bloodshot eyes and a BAC of .113. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Cassidy D. Cady, 18, of Lucas, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 6:49 p.m. Aug. 18. Officers spoke with an employee who said she saw Cady and another woman remove tags from three bras and an eyelet tote and put them in their purses. They also took two powder brushes, toothpaste, a 28 ounce shaker bottle, two bottles of melatonin and a Cosmopolitan magazine. Cady admitted to taking the items that totaled $95.30. She was cited and released to appear.

• A 16-year-old juvenile is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 6:49 p.m. Aug. 18. Officers spoke with an employee who said she saw the juvenile and another woman remove tags from three bras and an eyelet tote and put them in their purses. They also took two powder brushes, toothpaste, a 28 ounce shaker bottle, two bottles of melatonin and a Cosmopolitan magazine. The juvenile admitted to taking the items that totaled $95.30. She was cited and released to appear.

• A 13-year-old juvenile is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 11:02 p.m. Friday. Officers spoke with an employee who said the juvenile tried to conceal an iPhone 5 car charger and Febreeze car scents and leave without paying. The items totaled $24.46. He was cited and released to appear.

• Joseph K. Reusswig, 37, of Newton, is charged with third-degree burglary after authorities were called to 930 E. Eighth St. S. at 3:36 a.m. Sunday. Officers were called about someone knocking on the doors and windows and turning the door handle attempting to get in. Officers were told Reusswig had gotten in the house and was yelling. The residents had locked themselves in their rooms and did not feel safe leaving to unlock the door for the officers. Officers had to force entry and found Reusswig sitting on a bed shirtless. Officers spoke with the victim who said Reusswig had not lived there since July 23 and had taken all of his items and was not welcome back. He admitted to pushing in the bedroom air conditioning unit and crawling in. He said he had knocked at the door and no one answered, so he though it was OK to break in through the bedroom window. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Zachary J. Borst, 20, of Altoona, is charged with possession/purchase of alcohol by person under 21 after authorities pulled him over on Highway F17 East at 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Officers smelled alcohol and he admitted to drinking earlier that evening. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Bradley J. Wood, 58, of Des Moines, is charged with trespass and assault after authorities were called to 3573 W. 92nd St. S. in Colfax at 8:59 p.m. Thursday. Wood entered a property after being told to vacate several times. He also allegedly placed his hands on a victim. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Marcus A. Muhammad, 26, of Colfax, is charged with driving while license denied or revoked after authorities pulled him over at the intersection of West 92nd Street South and Highway F48 West at 3:59 p.m. Thursday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
