Newton man honored in Iowa State Fair rose competition

DES MOINES — Gary L. Osborn, of Newton, claimed the Princess of Show Hybrid Tea/Grandiflora, Best Grandiflora Spray and Best Miniature Spray titles during the Rose competition judged Aug. 15 at the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

Osborn entered several different categories in the competition. His first place finishes include: Sec I — Elina, Sec I — any other yellow blend, Sec I — double delight, Sec II — any orange/orange blend/orange red/orange pink, Sec II — any pink/pink blend, Sec III — polyanthas, Sec IV — any apricot/apricot blend, Sec V — any other white, Sec V — pierrine, Sec V — joy, Sec V — any other orange/orange blend/red/pink, Sec V — any other pink blend, Sec V — any other red, Sec V — Kristin, Sec V — Dr. John Dickman, Sec V — Nancy Jean, Sec V — any other apricot/apricot blend/russet, Sec VI — pink blends, Sec VI — medium/dark red, Sec VII — three miniature sprays — Exhibition Stage, Sec VII — miniature english bench, Sec VII — three miniatures — cycle of bloom, Sec VII — three hybrid teas, Sec VII — Three grandifloras and Sec VII — english bench.
