DES MOINES — Young Fairgoers pedaled their way to success in the Pedal Power Pull held Tuesday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair.
In the Pedal Power Pull, kids attempt to pedal a mini tractor 40 feet (a “full pull”) pulling a box weighing from 80 pounds for 4-year-olds to 260 pounds for 11-year-olds. In the event of a tie or two full pulls, weight is added and a re-pull is held to determine the winner.
In the girls division of the competition, Elizabeth Kern, of Colfax, earned first place in the 4-year-olds category completing a full pull.
Kate Schlosser, of Colfax, and Becca Mohles, of Tripoli, topped the competition in the 11-year-olds category. Both girls achieved two full pulls. Mohles edged Schlosser for first in the third pull with another full pull to in Schlosser’s 36 feet, 1 inch.
In the boys division, Kenneth Schlosser, of Colfax, won the 11-year-olds category with a full pull. Thomas Kern, of Colfax, came in fifth place in the 6-year-olds category with a pull of 12 feet, 7 inches.
