Newton Police Department

• Tommy D. Sanders, 50, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant for parole violation after authorities were called to Walmart at 9 p.m. Monday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Terry L. Wilfawn, 26, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant and is charged with possession of controlled substance, interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to the 500 block of South 11th Ave. W. at 6:25 a.m. Monday. Officers knew Wilfawn to have warrants for his arrest. When they told him to stop and he said he would not. He began to run from the officers before stopping and turning to fight with the officer. He was brought to the ground and handcuffed. Officers searched him and found less than one gram of methamphetamine. They also found three syringes. He began spitting on the police car and tried to fight the officer at the jail. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jonathan L. Arends, 40, of Newton, is charged with driving while barred after authorities pulled him over at 821 13th Ave. E. at 3:53 a.m. Monday. Officers saw a vehicle that was traveling at high speeds. When the emergency lights were turned on the officers heard the vehicle screech to a stop as if it had been trying to get away. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• James N. Casteel, 32, of Newton, is charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury after authorities were called to the 100 block of North Fourth Avenue West at 1 a.m. July 11. Officers were called by Casteel about an intoxicated woman leaving with her children. He said she had hit her head on a picnic table causing a bump. The victim said she had attempted to break up with Casteel and he became upset, allegedly slamming her head on the counter. She then fell to the ground and he allegedly slammed her head on the floor. After receiving medical treatment it was determined she had a fracture to her right and left orbital socket. He was located in Marshalltown Monday was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Robbie L. Doran, 32, of Newton, is charged with contempt after authorities were called to 1205 W. Sixth St. S. at 1:32 p.m. Monday. Doran was at a residence were there is a valid no contact order. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Tommy D. Sanders, 50, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to 703 E. Eighth St. S. at 9:15 p.m. Sunday. Officers were called about the theft of a license plate. Officers spoke with the victim, who said the neighbor allegedly saw his fiancé’s son stealing the license plates from the vehicle and replacing them with different plates. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Byron A. Sharp, 19, of Newton, is charged with third-degree theft and unauthorized use of credit card under $1,000 after authorities were called to 1701 S. Eighth Ave. E. at 5 p.m. Jan. 29. Officers spoke with the victim who said that his iPhone 5 was taken from this locker. He said he located it by GPS in the 600 block of West Sixth Street South. Officers went to the residence and spoke with Sharp’s mother who said he had a bag that may have something in it. Officers found the iPhone in the bag as well as the victim’s wallet. Officers were then contacted by another victim who said his iPod had been taken. Sharp admitted he had taken the phone and used stolen credit cards. The total value used on the card was $4.82. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Sheriff’s Office

• Ryan E. Doty, 35, of Colfax, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to 719 W. Pleasant St. at 6:30 a.m. Friday. Officers were told of warrants for Doty and upon finding him also found a small glass pipe. He admitted that it was a marijuana pipe. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• David L. Engle, 34, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over at 1118 First Ave. E. at 8:20 p.m. Saturday. Officers found he had blood shot, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking two 40 ounce beers and had a BAC of .082. He was to the Jasper County Jail.
