Cowgirl queens crowned at state fair

DES MOINES — Cheyanne Hunt, of Wapello, was crowned Senior Cowgirl Queen Friday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair. Mallory Vroegh, of Granger, earned the title of Junior Cowgirl Queen.

The Junior Cowgirl Queen Attendants include the four runners-up in the competition for young women ages 10 to 15. The attendants are Alexus Coleman of Monroe, Emily Miller of Newton, MaKenna Carver of Cherokee and Callyn Fox of Center Point.

The Senior Cowgirl Attendants are selected from competitors ages 16 to 26 and include Clara Johnson of Indianola, Jessica Ackerson of Indianola, Jessica Hanrahan of Prole, and Sami Searle of Joice.

Both Cowgirl Queens received a $125 cash award, a belt buckle sponsored by Iowa Show Circuit and a monogrammed chair. Their attendants also received cash prizes and chairs.

Judges in the Cowgirl Queen contest considered appearance including beauty, attractiveness and appropriateness of western wear and horsemanship.
