Royal Plumbing receives Prairie Days recognition

Not every business can grow its employee base from one to 40 in fewer than 10 years, but that’s what business owner Travis Landwehr has done at Royal Plumbing in Prairie City. As the business celebrates its expansion and large employment base, city organizers have recently recognized the company’s contributions to the community with the 2015 Prairie Days Business of the Year award.

Royal Plumbing is a local business owned by resident Landwehr, who started the company in 2006. His wife, Lindsay, works at the business office while his father, Ernie, is the lead in sales. Travis and Lindsay live just north of Prairie City and supports the community it services.

Landwehr has grown his business immensely in the last nine years, becoming a credible, experienced plumbing service company. Landwehr has gone from one employee to now having more than 40 employees, and he has expanded his market across the entire state of Iowa.

Royal Plumbing specializes in residential, new construction and commercial plumbing in Jasper County, Des Moines metro and other surrounding areas, and its specialty is the installation of walk-in baths and showers.

These walk-in products are attractive as a safe and secure alternative to a traditional step-in shower, which can become a greater challenge for many. Royal Plumbing takes pride in being able to help people make the transition and say a walk-in tub, in most cases, only takes two days.

“We want to offer families an opportunity to keep their independence at an affordable price,” Lindsay said.

Royal Plumbing employees make at-home estimates but the business also provides a showcase for its clients to get a better look and feel for products. The showroom is located at 107 S East St. in Prairie City.

Royal Plumbing was named business of the year during a Prairie Days celebration July 25 due to its business expansion, large employment base and involvement in the community.

“Each year, we honor a business that supports the community in more ways than just operating in Prairie City. Royal Plumbing has been a financial sponsor to Prairie Days for many years and we wanted to recognize them for that. These financial contributions are necessary to continue to have events such as Prairie Days,” Prairie Days committee member Stacie Alleger said.

“We are very happy to have received this award from the community and to be located here in Prairie City. We appreciate the recognition,” Lindsay said.

The Landwehr’s have long resided in the Prairie City-Monroe area and couldn’t imagine settling elsewhere. Travis and Stacie said they are happy to be located in Prairie City, “a great place to raise a family.” The couple have three young children and the business and its employees allow them to have flexible schedules. The owners also take pride on being very family-orientated toward its workers and working with their schedule needs.

“Royal Plumbing is a growing business that chooses to remain here in Prairie City providing not only services to our community but employment opportunities as well. The owners live, work and raise their family here in PC, too,” Alleger said.
