Newton Police Department

• Samantha L. Brown, 30, of Newton was arrested on a warrant for probation violation after authorities were called to 894 E. 12th St. N. at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Eric E. Trout, 50, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Newton 66 at 12:49 a.m. July 21. Employees said they noticed their donation jar for the Christian Record Services was missing. After reviewing video footage, they recognized Trout taking it. It held a unknown amount of change. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Dustin E. Pherigo, 30, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 11:50 p.m. Saturday. Officers spoke with an employee who said she saw a person, identified as Pherigo, conceal a power inverter, speaker and adjustable knife in a tool box and left without paying for them. The items totaled $159.58. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jeff A. Dean, 29, of Newton, is charged with public intoxication after authorities were called to the 300 block of East 13th Street North at 12:50 a.m. Monday. Officers were called about  a fight and found Dean, who then ran around the corner to a back porch. Officers said he was carrying a beer can and dropped it when he got on the porch. He smelled strongly of alcohol and had poor balance. He admitted to having a half bottle of whiskey. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• David R. Neasham, 50, of Newton, is charged with public intoxication after authorities were called to 308 E. 13th St. N. at 12:54 a.m. Monday. Officers were called about a fight and found Neasham walking from 310 E. 13th St. N. to 308 E. 13th St. N. He had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. He said he had been drinking at his home. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Gene A. Hennick, 25, of Ackley, is charged with driving while barred after authorities pulled him over at the intersection of South 12th Avenue West and Highway 6 at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Harley N. McDaniel, 23, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called to the 1400 block of North 11th Avenue East at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived and separated the two involved. The victim alleged McDaniel had hit her in the back of the head several times. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Nicholas H. Klingensmith, 48, of Newton, is charged with driving while license denied after authorities pulled him over at the intersection of East 25th Street South and South Fifth Avenue East at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday. He was cited and released to appear.
