Carroll D. De Zwarte, 74, of West Des Moines, passed from this life Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015. A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at New Hope Assembly, 4425 70th St. in Urbandale. The family will receive friends and family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines.

Carroll Dwayne De Zwarte was born Feb. 6, 1941, in rural Jasper County to Bernard and Wilma De Zwarte. He grew up northwest of Sully, and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1959.

On Jan. 5, 1961, he was united in marriage with Rosalie Van Wyk in Sully. He farmed for 20 years in Jasper County. In 1981, he moved to West Des Moines where he operated a cleaning, painting and construction business. Later he became a financial planner and branch manager of LPL Financial. Most recently he established and operated Freedom Houses, a place for those seeking Christ centered recovery.

Carroll is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosalie De Zwarte; three children, Brent (Denise) De Zwarte, Terry (Margaret) De Zwarte and Darlys (John) Purdy; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Linda (Dennis) Van Maanen; and his brother Glen (Carol) De Zwarte.
