Newton shines in the summertime

Kelly Zach
Newton

I am writing this letter in appreciation of the awesome summer we have had to share with our family and our community this summer. I am always in amazement of the work that this community puts towards its summer programming.

The Newton Public Library has had excellent programs all summer, keeping children engaged in topics of their interest. The children have also been challenged to continue with reading skills during the summer break through the library program and through Buena Vista’s reading program. The children come to activities offered by the Newton Public Library, to maintain social activities with their friends and classmates. The adults have also stayed engaged in reading during their summer events.

The exciting community events also included Newton Fest and Alumni Weekend in conjunction with the Sculpture Fest. The community members were very happy with the choices of activities that were offered for the jam-packed weekend.

There are so many other events that are not mentioned, but are greatly appreciated by parents and community members involving the YMCA, The Jasper County Conservation staff, the Iowa State Extension office and the summer activities held by all the community churches.

I would like to make special mention and accolades to the City of Newton Park and Rec Department. Awesome job! The summer concert series on Thursday nights at the Maytag Bowl is very enjoyable. The parks are in wonderful shape with beautiful upkeep, and we have spent many hours as a family using the parks and the pool. Keep up the great work City of Newton and Jasper County. This community is shining, and hopefully the shine will not dull through the fall and winter.
