• Nathan W. Dewar, 26, of Newton, is charged with unlawful possession prescription drug and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to 2901 Rusty Wallace Drive at 5:43 a.m. Wednesday. Officers were called about suspicious activity and found Dewar. He was being investigated about a possible burglary and officers found three pills that he did not have a prescription for. They also found a syringe on the floor of the vehicle he had been in. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Barbara A. Pence, 66, of Newton, is charged with failure to obey traffic control device after authorities were called to the intersection of First Avenue West and West Fourth Street North at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. Allison Simmons was traveling west on First Avenue when Pence entered the intersection and her vehicle hit Simmons’ vehicle. She said she was looking at a sweet corn stand and did not realize that she had a red light. Pence had approximately $2,000 in damage and Simmons had approximately $1,200 in damage. She was cited and released to appear.

• Duane G. Loshaw, 45, of Newton, is charged with contempt, violation of no contact/protective order and domestic abuse assault after authorities were called to 800 block of North Seventh Avenue West at 10:42 p.m. July 26. Loshaw allegedly entered the residence, grabbed the victim and shook her. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Brandon J. Miller, 18, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over in the 1600 block North Fourth Avenue East at 1:49 a.m. July 12. Officers made contact with Miller and he had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled of marijuana. Lab results indicated a positive screen for marijuana. He was cited and released to appear.

• Allie J. King, 26, of Newton, is charged with fourth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 4:40 p.m. Thursday. Officers spoke with the loss prevention employees who said King removed several Magic Trading Cards from the front of the store and walked throughout the store. She then opened them and removed the inner package that held the cards placing them in her purse. Six items of children’s clothing were also taken and she drank half a bottle of tea while walking around the store. King said she was bored, and she collected the cards and admitted she was going to leave without paying. The items totaled $252.07. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Micheal S. Lee, 33, of Des Moines, is charged with interference with official acts and consumption of alcohol in public place after authorities were called to 627 First St. S. at 5:21 a.m. Friday. Officers were called about a suspicious male and found Lee who had an open bottle of Mike’s Hard Lemonade. After placing the bottle on the roof of a car, he was instructed to pull his hands out of his pockets and turn around. He turned and ran with the officers chasing him. He ran behind the Newton Healthcare Center and officers lost sign of him. The Iowa State Patrol arrived and found him in the woods south of South Eighth Avenue East. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Leah G. Murphy, 24, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 5:09 p.m. Friday. Officers spoke with employees who said Murphy concealed items from the store in her purse and tired to walk past the last point of sale. She was stopped by the employees and said she wanted some things she could not pay for. The items were various clothing and cosmetic items and totaled $37.54. She was cited and released to appear.

• Tiffany R. Huffaker, 28, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 12:26 p.m. Saturday. Officers spoke with loss prevention staff who saw Huffaker take a purse and then put HDMI cables inside of it. The items totaled $146.56. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Chad A. Shores, 45, of Newton, is charged with driving while license denied after authorities pulled him over at the intersection of South Fifth Avenue East and East 12th Street South at 1:54 a.m. Sunday. He was cited and released to appear.
