Two Newton men are charged in a string of local burglaries at area businesses including the Fore Seasons Golf Center and at least three other businesses.

Scott A. Johnson, 26, is charged with three counts of burglary for incidents at the Moose Lodge in Newton, Bucklin Auto Parts in Ira and Fore Seasons that took place Friday through Sunday.

Nathan W. Dewar, 26, was charged with third-degree burglary after authorities investigated two suspicious vehicles located on Rusty Wallace Drive, near the Newton Airport and officers determined a burglary occurred in the area. Stolen property from the burglaries was recovered after authorities executed search warrants on the vehicles and a storage shed site.

The first burglary at the Moose Lodge in Newton was reported Friday. The following day, Bucklin Auto Parts reported a burglary at its business. Fore Seasons reported on Sunday a burglary in which $2,000 was taken from the business, as well as damage to a computer and door.

As a result of public assistance through social media and an investigation by the sheriff’s office, Newton Police Department, MINE East Drug Force and the Iowa State Patrol, the suspects were apprehended.

Jasper County is still experiencing rural burglaries during the day and at night, said Sheriff John Halferty. The public is asked to report any suspicious vehicles or activities by calling 641-792-5912.

Johnson is being held on a $22,000 bond and Dewar is being held on a $55,300 bond at the Jasper County Jail.
