Canadian man pleads guilty in Iowa to role in pot smuggling

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Canadian man has pleaded guilty in Iowa to helping smuggle thousands of pounds of marijuana into the United States. Jason Boyachek, 42, of Edmonton, Alberta, on Monday pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to conspiracy to distribute marijuana. A money laundering charge will be dismissed. Prosecutors say Boyachek was involved in a ring that smuggled more than 8,400 pounds of hydroponically grown marijuana from British Columbia.
