Rex L. Hall, of Newton, died Friday morning, July 24, 2015, at the home of his daughter, Connie Ayers, near Kearney, Mo.

A funeral services for Rex will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Pastor Roger Swanson will conduct the services. A visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 29 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family in Rex’s name.

Rex L. Hall, 87, the son of William Fredrick and Martha (Sandusky) Hall, was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Grinnell. He was a graduate of the Grinnell Senior High, Class of 1947. Rex was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton, in the die setting and sheet metal department, and retired in March 1983. He then started delivering flowers for Hy-Vee Floral Shop in Newton, 1983-1996.

On Nov. 15, 1946, Rex was united in marriage with Helen L. Meyer in Grinnell. To this union two daughters were given, Barbara and Connie. A longtime resident of the Newton area, Rex devoted his life to family, and was a member of the Newton Moose Lodge, Grinnell Eagle Club and the First United Methodist Church, where he had served as an usher for many years. He was active in and enjoyed sports and was a loyal fan of the Grinnell High School Tigers (of which he was a four year letterman) and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen on April 29, 2008; a great grandson Nathan Andrew Wilson; and two brothers, Bill and Norman Hall.

Those left to honor Rex’s memory include his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Richard Bollinger of Iowa City and Connie and Joe Ayers of Kearney, Mo.; his granddaughters, Jodi (Matt) Cross of Nebraska and Amy Jo Ayers of Kansas; and a great-grandson Reagan Mathew Cross; several nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.
