Newton Police Department

• Marlene Yacoub, 40, of Des Moines, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled her over at the intersection of East 19th Street North and North 19th Avenue East at 4:45 a.m. Thursday. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Evan M. Tibe, 35, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over in the 1200 block of West 18th Street South at 1:25 a.m. Saturday. Officers were called about a reckless driver who was having a hard time maintaining lanes, speeding and almost hitting bridges. Officers identified the vehicle and made contact with Tibe who smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking about four beers earlier in the day. He was cited and released to appear.

• Hector D. Bonilla, 32, of Newton, is charged with disorderly conduct after authorities were called to 400 N. Second Ave. E. at 10:57 p.m. Friday. Officers spoke with several people who said Bonilla had gone out of his apartment and was intoxicated, cussing and threatening individuals in the apartment. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jonathon L. Arends, 40, of Newton, is charged with interference with official acts, driving while barred, possession of drug paraphernalia and was arrested on a Poweshiek County warrant for fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Hy-Vee at 1:11 a.m. Friday. Officers saw a vehicle in the parking lot at Hy-Vee and recognized Arends who was entering the store. As officers began walking inside the store Arends exited and began walking toward the vehicle. Officers spoke with him and asked if his name was Jon Arends and he said no, his name was Jonathan. Officers told him of his arrest warrant and instructed him to stay by the patrol vehicle. He then took off running east across East 17th Street South. Officers followed him on foot across South Fourth Avenue East and apprehended him in the 1700 block of South Fourth Avenue East. While searching his vehicle, officers found a meth pipe and marijuana pipe. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Paul G. Schleiger, 22, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault impeding flow of air/blood after authorities were called to 923 E. 16th St. N. at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. Officers spoke with the victim who had a small scratch on her right leg and noticeable discolored and red right ear. The victim said she was having an argument with her boyfriend, Schleiger, when he allegedly threw his wallet at her, which had a heavy metal object in it. He then allegedly put her in a headlock. She said that her airflow was not blocked, but she did start seeing spots. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
