MAT Tumbling and Trampoline recently competed at the 2015 USTA National Championships held in Rapid City, S.D., where more than 150 teams gathered to show off their talents in power tumbling, Olympic trampoline and double mini trampoline.

More than 60 athletes from the MAT Trampoline and Tumbling Team qualified and traveled to South Dakota to participate in the National Championships and compete against more than 2,300 athletes from all across the country. This year’s National Championships proved successful for the MAT Team as they took home the honor of being named the No. 1 Power Tumbling Team in the nation.

The MAT Team also came away with several Team Division awards which included: First Place Beginner Boys Power Tumbling, First Place Advanced Beginner Girls Power Tumbling, First Place Sub Novice Girls Power Tumbling, Second Place Novice Girls Power Tumbling, Second Place Sub Advanced Girls Power Tumbling, Second Place Advanced Girls Double Mini Trampoline and Second Place Advanced Synchronized Trampoline.

The Green Team participated in the Parade of Champions, an Olympic-style celebration and awards ceremony held each year to recognize all the athletes who are competing in the National Championships. Two MAT Team members were nominated for the Nissen-Griswald Athlete of the Year award during that ceremony: Mackenzie Schuster and Chelsea Trotter. The MAT Team had seven national champions: Joseph Rechtfertig, Beginner Boys Power Tumbling age 5-6; Kennedy Feldman, Advanced Beginner Power Tumbling age 8; Julianna Livingston, Advanced Beginner Power Tumbling age 11; Halie Hohnstein, Sub Novice Power Tumbling age 8; Dylann Beiner, Sub Novice Power Tumbling age 11; Kenna Winther and Chelsea Trotter, Advanced Synchronized Trampoline age 15-16.

This was a year of learning for this team, as it was the first year competing for many members, and many existing team members stepped up to compete in new levels that brought challenges. All the MAT athletes stepped up to the challenges and grew as athletes throughout the year. The following are the results for the 2015 USTA National Championships. These are the overall results; flight results would have been higher, as some groups had up to eight flights (80 competitors).
