Jerry M. Schroyer, 84, of Baxter, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Park Centre in Newton. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 24 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. A rosary will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, July 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the family greeting friends following from 5 to 7 p.m. After the visitation, there will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Baxter Education Foundation may be left at the church during the services or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.

Jerry, the son of Joe and Alice (Brisel) Schroyer, was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Ira. He grew up in the rural Ira and Baxter area and attended Baxter Schools. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Korean War.

On Jan. 4, 1954, Jerry was united in marriage with Alice M. Stalzer in Haverhill. He worked construction all of his life and in 1958, started his own construction business, Mid-State Construction, which is still in business today. Jerry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a past member of the Izaak Walton League, American Legion Post 493 and the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Baxter School Board for a number of years. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.

Those left to honor Jerry’s memory are his children, Jone (Larry) Birkenholtz of Newton, Ann (Steve) Ratliff of Baxter, Janet (Dave) Deaton of Baxter, and Mike (Patty) Schroyer of Baxter; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice in 2010; and a great-grandson, Larzen Hanson in 2013.
