Newton Area Volleyball Camp registration deadline is Friday

Newton High is hosting the Newton Area Volleyball Camp to be directed by University of Northern Iowa assistant volleyball coach Kim Davis. The camp is July 26-27 at Newton High School.

There are two age-group sessions to the two-day camp — one for grades 9-12 and one for grades 6-8. Registration deadline is Friday.

The high school sessions are 6 to 9 p.m. July 26 and 9 a.m. to noon, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. July 27. The middle school sessions are 4 to 6 p.m. July 26 and 1 to 3 p.m. July 27. The high school camp cost is $105 and the middle school camp is $45.

Davis is in her 10th year on UNI head coach Bobbi Petersen’s coaching staff. A native of Carroll, the former Kim McCaffrey was one of the best players in UNI history, having been named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Volleyball Team in 2006. She helped lead UNI to its second NCAA Sweet 16 appearance as a senior in 2001, earning first team all-conference honors for the third time and being selected to the All-Central Region squad.

Helping with the camp is NHS head coach Laura Sherratt, who is in her second year at the helm of the Cardinal program, and the Cardinal coaching staff.

The camp will focus on fundamentals skills, techniques and team play to help build a strong, basic foundation of volleyball skills. This camp is for any girl in Newton and the surrounding areas who will be entering 6th –12th grade in the fall. This camp is open to any and all entrants (limited only by number, age, grade level, and/or gender) as required by the NCAA rules.
