Mustangs topple Eagles

PELLA — Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs head into the baseball postseason on a two-game win streak. The Mustangs held off host Pella Christian Thursday for a 3-2 non-conference win.

PCM (8-16) plays a Class 2A District 11 quarterfinal game Saturday against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The game is 7 p.m. in Albia. The winner plays Davis County at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Albia.

The Mustangs wrapped up the regular season against the Pella Christian Eagles Thursday. They scored twice in the second inning and plated a run in the sixth for a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles pushed two runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning. PCM’s pitcher Tyler Townsend and the Mustangs kept the Eagles at bay for the close victory.

Townsend threw a complete game. He limited the Eagles to four hits, walked three batters and struck out three.

Ricky Reeve drove in a run on a squeeze bunt. Austin Brown recorded an RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Connor Warrick paced the Mustang offense with a double. Hitting a single each were Trey Lindsay, Clay Cooper, Ethan Thomas, Sheldon Speers and Reeve.
