UI police captain named Clear Lake chief

CLEAR LAKE — A University of Iowa police captain has been named Clear Lake’s new police chief.

The Clear Lake City Council will officially appoint Pete Roth, 45, to the post on Monday.

The selection of Roth follows a four-month recruitment process, City Administrator Scott Flory said. Roth, a married father of two, was one of three finalists to be interviewed in closed-door sessions by the city council in recent days.

Roth oversees 22 sworn police officers, four lieutenants and two sergeants in the University of Iowa’s uniformed patrol division. He has been with the Iowa City college’s public safety division since 2008, previously serving 10 years with the Clive Police Department.
